FedPoint Announces Annual Nurses Scholarship Program

Portsmouth-based federal contractor pledges support to next generation of nurses

Portsmouth, NH (May 9, 2022)—To coincide with National Nurses Week (May 6–12), federal benefits administrator FedPoint® announced the launch of a new scholarship program designed to help strengthen the nursing workforce in northern New England and beyond.

FedPoint, which celebrates 20 years in business in 2022, will award four $5,000 scholarships annually to individuals accepted to accredited nursing programs and who currently reside in either New Hampshire, Maine, or Massachusetts. FedPoint plans to announce the scholarship winners each spring to coincide with National Nurses Week. The first awards will be made in May 2023.

FedPoint, which services the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP), the largest group long term care insurance program in the country, administers policies for more than 265,000 federal civilian and military enrollees. The company employs several dozen registered nurses who provide care coordination services for claimants and family members.

"As the FLTCIP administrator, we are keenly aware of the demand for registered nurses," said FedPoint CEO Paul Forte. "This need was underscored during the pandemic, and with 73 million baby boomers in the United States continuing to reach retirement age, ensuring that enough high-quality care is available in the coming years has never been more important. We believe it's critical to educate potential candidates on the benefits of nursing as a career path and support the next generation of RNs. These scholarships are intended to help attract qualified candidates to the profession, make a meaningful financial contribution to their training, and serve as a token of our gratitude to those who commit to this venerable field."

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, approximately 195,000 openings for registered nurses are projected each year, on average, over the next decade.

"During the COVID era, we lost so many outstanding frontline nurses due to burnout," said FedPoint's Director of Care Coordination Marilyn Staff, RN. "These scholarships are a way to recognize, support, and thank those choosing to enter a profession that not only revolves around caring for others, but also doing so under difficult and stressful circumstances."

FedPoint is partnering with nurses from several regional institutions—including the Emergency Nurses Association's New Hampshire State Council, Cornerstone Visiting Nurse Association, and Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network—who will be on the application review panel, along with members of FedPoint's own care coordination team.

FedPoint, formerly known as LTC Partners, rebranded in 2020. The company received a Business Excellence award in 2021 from NH Business Review in the health care category for a large organization. In addition to the FLTCIP, FedPoint also administers BENEFEDS, an online platform through which millions of active and retired federal civilians and uniformed service members shop for, enroll in, and manage their coverage through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). The company recently expanded its benefits platform to accommodate additional product offerings, including health care insurance.

Additional details about the scholarship, eligibility requirements, and the application timeline will be available on FedPoint's website in the months ahead.
